The quality of songs on "Suicide Society" are superb and refreshingly new, with Jeff's vocals adding a diverse and concise dynamic that blends well with each track. The opening title track has a very strong lyrical theme of earth and mankind's fate, with equally intense musicianship that does not disappoint. The track is catchy as hell and full of intricate passages, time changes and a solid groove with a surprising refrain at the end!
"My Revenge" has an ole school Metallica approach, with a quick thrash beat and sonic melodic chorus, entwined with some very cool riffs and solos that'll have ya standing at attention and banging yer head. Shredding is paramount on this one, building into an epic number. Every song on this album plays extremely well on a HD car stereo with a trunk of subs, cranked to the limits and dominating the road.
As with "Snap" the deep bass and crisp counterbalance of raw guitar riff-age, pound outta the subs with full force, at a cool mid-tempo swagger. Never relying on a set formula, but incorporating a wide range of song styles. Annihilator have developed and matured into a band with the proper balance of heaviness and bright, inspired songwriting.
The fourth track "Creepin' Again" has been released as an official video that has a great bounce to it and om-onus break downs, with a very familiar Annihilator signature sound to it, that reveals itself (as) a new unleashed beast. Thrashy guitar riddled fun, with bone crushing bass and huge time changes smattering an infectious groove that is refreshing and new.
Over the top and deep into the thick off it "Narcotic Avenue" is a chaotic ride addressing the world of substance abuse. Fast thrashing and precise with progressive lyrics that roll off the tongue. Brutal honesty and musical integrity center stage sharing hints of Testament Anthrax or traces of Lamb Of God perhaps some DRI. Explosive and thrashing good fun, definitely one of my favorites on "Suicide Society" \m/
A very pleasant surprise is "The One You Serve" that has a classic Annihilator tapestry that weaves through your cranium and connects the heavy metal nodes. Pure pleasure, that will have your foot tapping and fist pumping horns hollering "follow me" into the mosh pit! Stomping with hypnotic Annihilator charm enjoying the modes.
"Break, Enter" is a self healing song; that any victim of said crime can associate with. Face melting blasting in your face with an undeniable Annihilator gallop, engulfing a progressive thrashed out head splitting groove. Layered and textured with a perfect production, exciting tempo twists and turns.
Mooding and brooding "Death Scent" descends like the perfect storm, sweeping into a resurfacing interlude/serge that is relentless and mind boggling .Painting a picture of groups of ill will wreaking havoc in our daily lives. Demonically dynamic and fun ~ massive extreme metal ear candy . Magnanimous Jeff!
Wrapping up the disc is what I'll call the black horse (holy shit what a good tune) called "Every Minute". A heavy metal anthem that is brash and bold breaking new ground. Elegant and ugly all at once, with passion and grooves written to a tee. An inspiring track that is an exceptional addition, ending off this album. A story of life/death and the rewards that follow!
Suicide Society has all the full on aggression that makes for a great metal album along with very well written and mastered music that worldwide metal legions will enjoy..and come to understand why Annihilator are Canadian metal legends..30 yrs strong.
This disc will result in 9.5 outta 10 metal-heads a headbanging sore neck!
