I've got a special treat today because I'm reviewing a split from two bands who put out 2 of the finest albums of 2013. I'm talking about Exhumed and Iron Reagan. "Necrocracy" was a killer album Exhumed released in 2013 while Iron Reagan slayed faces with "Worse Than Dead."
Now they've joined forces to drop a split 12 inch EP for all of us to chomp on and boy does it taste great.
First off, Tankcrimes went all out on the album art as the bloody chainsaw wielding freak in a suit is just pure awesome.
The first four tracks belong to Exhumed and it's basically exactly what you would expect from them; full force insanity. They have carved out a place in metal history for themselves and with every passing release, I love this band more and more.
'Gravewalker' opens the festivities with a tight bass line that leads into a super heavy and catchy riff. 'Dead To The World' is straight up death metal, no need for any fancy stuff. Grind style speed, blast beats and screams. What more do you need?
I absolutely love their cover of Minor Threats 'Seeing Red.' They kill with their own material but when they cover someone else's, they show off their true ability. 'Ready To Fight' is just as mind numbingly good and is the perfectly intense way to finish off their half of the EP.
Iron Reagans side starts out with a total thrasher entitled 'Life Beater.' Their godly presence is felt and as I'm a huge fan of Municipal Waste, it sure is nice to hear Tony Foresta's trademark screech. 'Gave Up On Giving A Fuck,' 'Mini Lights' and 'Holy Water Makes Me Wet' round out the effort and dare I say that this material is better than their 2013 full length?
I think it just might be as the boys have fantastic and thrashy musicianship on every track.
I got through this entire thing in about 10 minutes and it was the most intense, brutal and spine tingling 10 minutes of my life.
If you need some more from these bands, make sure you grab it when it releases on January 7. Believe me, you won't regret it.
