A Skeletal Domain
By: Sean "The Asian Invasion" Harris
That one is Cannibal Corpse.
Straight from the bloody depths of Buffalo, New York, Cannibal Corpse was formed in 1988 and started to gain an underground cult following after the releases of death metal staples like Butchered At Birth and Tomb of The Mutilated. They have blazed a path of destruction for over 25 years and are currently showing zero signs of slowing down any time soon.
They have been the source of many controversies over the years, mostly due to their horror based lyrics and album art. They may be all about mutilation and evisceration in those aspects, but really when it comes down to it, they're all super cool guys, great musicians and have written some of the heaviest music the world has ever heard.
26 years after inception, Cannibal is set to release their lucky 13 studio album, entitled "A Skeletal Domain."
It's anything but lucky. Luck is for losers. 'Headlong Into Carnage' just about sums it up.
These 12 songs fit like a glove into the so called 'Dead Human Collection' that is the Cannibal discography. Every track perfectly bleeds into the next, making for some serious headbanging for all 40 plus minutes. They haven't made one album in 26 years that can even be remotely associated with the word bad. They've never forgotten who they are, never sugar coated anything and most importantly, stayed true to the metal form. No ballads. No filler. No mess. Just music to lobotomize people to.
The album starts off the way it should. 'High Velocity Impact Splatter' starts with guitars in the background supplied by the wonderful Rob Barrett and Pat O'Brien. The bass lines hit and Alex Webster is ready to take you on a ride that will definitely end in death. Paul Mazurkiewicz starts Hammer Smash Facing the drums and George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher lets that infamous scream and growl out. It's pure mayhem.
Every single track, the chaos does not let up for one second. 'Sadistic Embodiment' is next up, as it was the first song released to the public. This track is most assuredly an embodiment of how sadistic Cannibal can be.
'Kill or Become' is my personal favorite on the album. Whats more catchy than firing up chainsaws and cutting people's heads off?
'Icepick Lobotomy', 'Vector of Cruelty' and 'Aspyhxiate To Resuscitate' are all total mind melter's but the entire recording is. I may single out a few songs here or there, but I could listen to this front to back for days on end. Cannibal Corpse can do no wrong.
I'd give this album a 5 / 5 rating but really.... this release blows any scale or rating out of the water. From now on, all my reviews will be rated in Cannibal Corpse points. 0 / 10 is pussy metal. 10 /10 is CORPSEGRINDER!
10 major horns high from me on this one. September 16. Go buy A Skeletal Domain. For those that don't, we'll "MAKE THEM SUFFER!"
