An absolute powerhouse.
Crimson Shadows were born in 2006 and currently reside in Toronto, Ontario. The Canadian killers have made quite a name for themselves in the short time they've been in the metal world.
Last year Canada held a battle to see which band from the homeland will have the distinct honor of playing in front of 80,000 screaming, moshing maniacs at Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany. Wacken is easily the biggest metal festival in the entire world. Who would be that band from up north to call the Wacken Stage their stomping grounds?
These boys can definitely play and more than deserved that dubious accolade. Now after a couple of cross country tours and an upcoming European run with Alestorm, these fine Canadian lads are about to release their forthcoming album, "Kings Among Men."
I really enjoyed their debut effort "Glory On The Battlefield" and I definitely did not want to be disappointed with their newest.
Disappointment is an emotion I did not experience while listening to this album.
The music itself is the antithesis of metal. Mixing the beautiful power metal strokes of Blind Guardian and the death metal vocal style of Amon Amarth, Crimson Shadows did exactly what they needed to do for a follow up; burn down the house in every possibly way.
The production is immaculate. Jimi Maltais could be mistaken for Johan Hegg, without a doubt. The double kick drum, face melting shred solos and super heavy bass lines lead me to this simple conclusion.
This epic power and death metal mashup is pulled off by Crimson Shadows better than damn near every other band before and after them.
All I can do is praise this cut. "Rise To Power" and "Maiden's Call" are two of personal favorites on an album littered with favorites for all.
It first gets released on August 29. Buy it, you won't regret it.
A very solid 4 / 5 from me.
