2016’s release “XX The Rising Vengeance” is Dominance finally hitting the mark, unleashing a ferocious beast that has been 20 years in the making. Spewing forth a newfound firepower, fury and direction that stand’s shoulder to shoulder with many major artists’ new releases. A whirlwind of experience, talent and tenacity is drafted together with a superb sound production, incorporating influences from: Pantera /Meshuggah /Carcass/Lamb of God/and melodic black metal structures akin to Death.
An ominous bass rhythm instrumental simply entitled “XX” builds the anticipation with mammoth battle drums and mournful guitar leads segueing to the rising vengeance of “Journey To A Life”. Explosive impact with a fast execution, blast beats and bombastic bass, drive this high adrenaline number to the redline. Massimiliano Marris’ vocals are astounding, sounding like a cross between a young Phil Anselmo and Randy Blyth, full of passion and rage.
“This Is War” keeps up the brutal pace with neck breaking thrash appeal, mixed with a gigantic barrage of death metal groove. Varied vocal ranges, from guttural blackened death metal to powerhouse demonic screams, intertwine brilliantly with the iron horse rhythm and relentless ferocity provided by Gabrriel Cavazzini and Luca Alzapiedi (guitars) roaring this tank to battle. “Into The Fog” will immerse you with plenty of tasty guitar hooks within and American melodic death metal realm, akin to Devildriver or perhaps After The Burial. A slick hypnotic rhythm and groove yet heavy as fuck!
vLike a heavy metal Monitor lizard charging “Twisted” will throw up the dust in the mosh pit with epic force. Incorporating a Sepultura tribal rhythm, with a sonic intertwine of concise guitar harmonics that bleed as one. With the blended tempos and superb drumming from Davide Todnoni along with Massimilianos’ raw vocals, bond this twisted monster into shape. One of my favorite tracks on this album. Originally released as a single in 2015 “Dear Next Victim” is the sixth song (or first song-side two of LP) that displays a diverse of side of Dominance that I didn’t expect. A slower tempo Midwestern-metal groove that weaves a ‘big daddy Rich’- Texas Hippie Coalition-sound, with an amped up Suicide Silence rage. Thoroughly entertaining and exhilarating, kudos!
Reckless yet tight “Breathless” grabs your attention and reckons recognition with demonic speed and raw abrasiveness. Subsonic bass lines from Saverio Rossi and the overall heavy-metal precision, will melt your face and leave you gasping for air. A twin guitar attack with an ascending melodic tempo brings us to “Just A Reflection” swiftly dropping into a death metal pocket and a crowd hopping chorus. Forceful-soulful, heavy fucking death metal, with sweet progressive thrashy -interludes.
As with all the vocals on this album they are of the extreme metal realm yet tangible and not unintelligible (where one needs a lyric video to understand what’s going on). The production/engineering and mixing is on point, exemplifying the band’s talent on the final song “Time To Pay”. Erupting through your speakers and firing on all cylinders with no regret.
I thoroughly enjoyed this album from front to back for the fact that the music is progressively sharp, full of death/thrash-metal rage and melodic at the same time. With the album flowing from beginning to end, engaging and never sounding monotonous or repetitive. This is Dominance \m/
I rate this album 4/5 horns high-ly recommended \m/\m/
