Ex kiss Guitarist Bruce who? Tom Morello? Ripper Owens? Serj Tenken? The wtf?
Just gets weirder until you realize this CD is made up entirely of dudes that loved Randy Rhoades. It's not polished modern high production or anything, His Brother Kelle aka Doug Rhoads, Rudy Searzo, Alexi all of them, they didn't make this for me or you. They made this to honor Randy because they loved the guy. With that being said, when you listen to this, think about that, these aren't just dudes doing covers, these are semi-famous people who are honoring the man, the Legend and his influence on them.
The love and affection shown by fans around the world for the memory of Randy Rhoads since his tragic death in a plane Crash has provided any proof necessary of the guitarist’s contributions and influence on the history of metal.
The Highlights on this tribute are the arrangements, Key changes, and seamless flow of major and minor melodies, classical influences that Randy is famous for and it is amazing. The musical performances really shed light on the influence Randy has had on the guitarists of this generation and are by far the most impressive part of this CD release.
The First track back to the Coast is definitely a rock throwback tune, good jam song if you’re a guitar player and like to keep it simple and straight forward.
The second Track is a classic, Believer. The Classical and harmonic structure of the opening riff really stands out, the driving rhythm and just evil sound is epic. When the solo hits, you can hear the love. Amazing shreddage and the first highlight of this CD.
The 3rd track, Crazy train. Well it surprised me. Serj does not do Ozzy well but that does not keep him from actually doing this song justice. Tom Morello picked a hard one, I don't really think his style works too well on this song and the solo and musical performance would be a lowlight if there is a a thing on a tribute CD. I love the song.
I got to the 4th song, hmm I waited. Flying high again, it's my jam. Another lowlight for me if there is such a thing. Goodbye to Romance the 5th track left me wondering why something like Diary of a madman was not included in this release or some of Randy’s other stellar work, then it got to the guitar solo and wow. Nice work. Definitely a performance worthy of noting.
The raw power of the 5th track I don't know eludes to something but falls flat somewhere during the wanking in the guitar solo and lackluster vocal performance.
Track 7 much like the First track, a feel good jam song. The performance is notable, the harmonies and tone are really good. A highlight for sure.
Track 8, from the very opening Keyboard Riff.....The doom and power of the minor progressions, then Chuck Billy comes in and holy shit. I listened to this track in awe. Simply the best song performance on this entire CD and Alexi shreds this solos with a passion what is worthy of a tribute. This whole CD is better because of this track, if not entirely worthy because of this track. No really.
Track 9 is a good solid performance of Over the Mountain. Randy’s influence is maintained in the riff age and you can feel the power that it created during the performance.
The 10th track, SATO. More Guitar wizardry and amazing changes. Good solid performance. Overall great solo, the changes from minor to major in the solo is really evident in this song, one of Randy’s best.
The Last Track is Suicide Solution and is a very good example of Randy's rhythm work, great performance and a highlight for sure.
Overall this is a great Tribute CD with Randy's Brother and various others doing what they do and honoring a great guitar player in Randy Rhoads. A huge influence on most guitar players myself included. Buy It **** it give it 4 stars, not for the amazing production, just the opposite, you should buy it for the honest non-auto tuned performances of people that loved the man and their tribute.
I give this album a solid 4/5
