Iron Mask “Diabolica” - Album Review by Metallic Rose

Iron Mask, a melodic power metal band from Belgium, offers as their sixth release Diabolica. With musical style favoring neoclassical inspired metal, Iron Mask members Dushan Petrossi (guitar, songwriter, and orchestral arrangements), Diego Valdez (lead vocals), Vassili Moltchanov (bass), and Ramy Ali (drums), have delivered a solid collaboration.
Dushan Petrossi has put together 12 tracks that vary in style but work well in total making this one album that is a treat to listen to in its entirety. The opening track I Don’t Forget, I Don’t Forgive sets the pace of fast-moving, heart-racing metal, pounding drums…screaming guitars…and awesome power vocals! Diego Valdez is superb as vocalist for Iron Mask. Valdez has range and style reminiscent of Ronnie James Dio and is showcased to perfection on each song.
Petrossi’s use of historical entities Doctor Faust, Galileo, and Oliver Twist provide unique musical interpretations. All for Metal is an anthem piece that will have you singing along and fist pumping!
The layered vocals in The First and the Last are intense and lead to an awesome a capella finish. Including the title track, Diabolica, the album has several heavy metal rockers as well as power ballads. The Rebellion of Lucifer and Ararat are masterpieces orchestrated with woven melodies and power vocals. In keeping with the metal tradition of epic, poetic musical composition, the album finale Cursed in the Devil’s Mill at almost 13 minutes is phenomenal!
Between Petrossi’s orchestration, engineering, and mixing by Angelo E. Buccolieri, Diabolica is an outstanding album that any metal fan would enjoy.
