Welcome again Metal Heads! Are you ready for another review?!?! Well lets get this fucker started shall we?
This one is going to be a little different, we are going to hop across the pond called the “Atlantic Ocean” and land in London, where we have (as they put it) four Polish lads who came together and formed “Bright Color Vision”, as for other history well let me tell you.
They started in 2007 when they had a few songs already completed and they were busting out with making more of their songs, the guitarists and drummer were also on a hunt for lead singer, when they finally found him they punched out their first EP “The Shape of Things” From there they got back to getting more music put on paper and onto tracks and as of April 2012 they gave the public their first LP called well.. you guessed it, “Carousel”. Does it stand up to metal artists of today… YES… and… NO.
So what do I mean by this? Well you can tell these guys are new to the scene and they are trying to send a very powerful message to the metal world that they are coming out to give everyone a kick ass time! It shows in the music they are producing. The guitar, bass, drums and some of the vocals are just amazing, I have to say they to come together as a band, and the music they produce has the passion you want to see in any band.
The part they really need to work on, and it may hurt them if they don’t get this perfected, is the fact that they are translating their music into English, with this album you can tell English isn’t their native tongue. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this is a bad thing at all, just it hurts them a bit in the way this album sounds.
Now before you jump down my throat for this, hear me out. There are two tracks on this album that are in their native tongue, which is Polish, and the sound of the songs are just amazing.. it flows it is great to hear and appealing to listen to, they have everything tight and it rocks! They have it mastered for that.
Now understand that I am not an English professor nor claim to be perfect in the English language at all, I make mistakes too, and you will see them in the articles here, however hear me out.
There are a few songs that you listen to that are in English and sometimes the translation is off on the lyrics. For example, in the song “Angel” he sings the lyrics “Angel of THE Death” or how it sounds like it could be that. In the song Monsters there is a lyric there “I forgot a few names and places” when he sings it, it is “I cant forget few names and places”. Granted they may have changed the lyrics but forgot to change it on the lyrics that they provided me for this review.
It does bring me to this point, the vocals are close to sounding really good, but with his accent on some of the words that are in some of the songs it sounds like he is singing off key, I know he isn’t and I know it is the accent that is coming on strong in the song, but some can and my use that against them, when honestly it shouldn’t, but it once again can hurt them. The slower songs they have they take their time and it shows in the lyrics and how they can sound compared to some of the faster songs. The phrase I can use that best describes this is “Lost in Translation”
Over all how does it sound? Well for their first official album and for a band that is unsigned it is a good start and a base to go on and improve. They do have a good sound and their style is what you would expect for a metal band, yes they may not sound original, but the mixtures of styles they have used it plays to their strengths, and helps over see some of the weaknesses they have. The album length is a solid 56 mins long, and it does flow for the most part, they do slow some of the songs down, which band doesn’t?
They do have room for improvement, and with time they will probably get there! Over all not a bad album to start off with, I’m sure if they keep it up and improving, they will look back in 10 years going “Wow, that is what we had… and this is where we are now”
So what is the best, and what is the worst song?
I have to say the best song on the album is “Letarg”, granted I have NO clue what any of the lyrics are since they aren’t translated into English and they are singing in Polish, but it sounds right and it is strong for them! They start this album off with this and it is a great start for the album because it shows you what they can do, and what they have to prove!
The worst song, I have to say is “Freedom”. There are parts there that, just sound off between the instruments and the vocals. It sounds they are trying to cover up the accent of his voice and it sounds like the vocals are forced and un natural. Granted the voice clip they used which was Charlie Chaplin’s final speech in “The Great Dictator was a good touch for the song, but it didn’t make the song.
I do like what they are attempting here, but there is room for improvement from this band. I do give this album a 6/10, they did have some areas that are very powerful, and the work they put into it shows. I am looking forward to seeing what this band has later on down the road.
