Welcome back and this time we have something good for your soul and rough for your neck from all the head banging you will be doing! So here is a question, what happens when you mix Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, and Killswitch Engage? You get Deaf Angel!
Who is Deaf Angel? Well they are a band out of Ft. Worth Texas that was formed in September of 2005. The current line up features vocals by Tina Downs and deadly jams by Lee Daniels (Guitar), Duston Daulton (Guitar), Steve Brandon (Bass Guitar) and Scott Van Slyke (Drums/Vocals). So it seems in the 7 years they have been though a lot, five years after they were founded they started to release music to the public, and brutally // Beautiful is the latest addition to their collection.
How does it sound? AMAZING! I heard the first song “Crazy” and instantly I started to bang my head in admiration of the sounds this band is putting together. They have mixed sounds that you will find in different bands and mashed them all together for an album that they can call their own.
You have the powerful voice of Tina, and then you get the growly vocals to mix with Tina’s voice, and it is one of the perfect combinations, something that only a hand full of bands out there have been able to make happen! The pace of this album is really steady and hard, they do slow down one of the songs “Run to me” but not by much, even with that it is over half way through the album. The guitar work is in top shape where you hear it mix with the Bass and drums it is a perfect sound you can get. Bring in the mix of the vocals and they all blend so beautifully (if you can think of that for a metal band) that they have got one of the better sounds out there in the way of metal music!
Once of my favorite songs is Direction, it has some powerful lyrics and with the growly vocals mixed with Tina’s voice topped with the guitar, bass and drums it has such a powerful potential to really kick ass it does. It takes you to a new level of listening
My least favorite song is Mirrors of Malice, as this is still good, it isn’t great and I can see why it is at the end of the album. The start of it seems mashed together a bit too quickly, however it does come around and make for a good song, but it takes it close to the end to do so.
Over all ,this album has 11 songs on it for a powerful 43 mins of music and really should be checked out! I’m giving this a hard core 9/10 for this album and people really need to look into Deaf Angel so that we can hear more of their music in the coming years!
For now I’m PK saying ROCK ON and we will see you on the next show!
