Welcome once again you hard core fans! I have a treat for you today! This album has been out in Europe for a couple of weeks now but North America get ready for another British invasion from a band called Evile!
For the rest of you who are scratching your heads wondering who they are. Quick history as per usual!
Evile started in jolly ol’ England back in 2004 with members Matt Drake, Ol Drake, Mike Alexander and Ben Carter. Where they brought out two EP’s in limited quantities: All Hallows Even EP in 2004 and Hell Demo in 2006. From there they took their show on the road for a couple of years getting their name out to England and parts of Netherland while supporting Exodus. In 2007 they brought out “Enter the Grave” which sold over 30, 000 copies worldwide. However in 2009 shortly after they had “Infected Nations” come out they lost their long-time friend and bass player Mike Alexander to an illness. With strong support from the Metal community, they kept plugging on but never forgetting about their fallen member and brought in a new bassist, Joel Graham to the fold.
With another album that came out in 2011 called “Five Serpent’s Teeth” it seems the Evile still was on top of their game and rightfully so. Hitting the top 40 in the US Heat charts Evile seemed they could do no wrong. Which brings us to today where June 11th we will see their next album come out in North America? Already making huge waves in Europe where to date it has hit the 61st spot on the UK charts.
I can see why! This album is fucking amazing! I have been listening to this album nonstop and all I keep thinking is that if Slayer ever retires, there will be no shortage of music that has a sound like them and other metal bands out there if Evile comes out with more material!
From the start to the finish of this album it is so polished I’m truly at a loss for words. However I’m going to try to explain it! All intros of the songs are tight that it leads perfectly into each transition of the main guts of the song. The vocals really flow and perfectly mix in with all the instruments. Each song has about three to four transitions of either speed or different riffs or even solos. You will not only be screaming out the lyrics which can be perfectly heard, but you will find yourself banging your head with the solos, and wanting to bang on air drums in time with music! Extra portions are perfectly timed into the songs like background vocals whether they are supporting the chorus or “moans or screams” in the background to give the song a little bit more is well received to the ears.
They even slow down a bit for “Tomb” which is also the longest song on the album coming in at 7:26, leading you to believe it will be a slow song throughout it, also bringing in some acoustic guitar. Then pick it up with such ease that in a way you don’t expect it, but when it happens it really takes the song to a new level! Then they bring it back down for some fine solos! SO Amazing to hear!
Evile has brought the level up on their stuff that this album may even make it to an album of the year contender in the Metal world. I’ve enjoyed this album that has such passion it is refreshing to hear. Even it coming in with only nine songs it still is a solid 48 mins long! None of the songs seem like they go on to long or too short.
So what are my favorite and least favorite songs on here?
This is a tough one, however one of my most favorite songs on here, and trust me it beats out the others just by a hair is “New Truths Old Lies” they bring in the acoustic and slow paced guitar and bass for the first little bit then 35 seconds later they harden it up and bring in the heavy stuff making for an awesome intro to the song! Slowly picking up the song more and by the chorus they have everyone backing up the “New Truths” words and it feels like a perfectly matched song for what they wanted. Building up to the solo, they jumped the speed to another level and this is 2:30 into the song, so we have had three transitions in one song! Some days you don’t hear of that with a 13 min song! This one is only 6:36. After the solo they change the tempo yet again. It is like four songs in one, which honestly is brilliant!
My least favorite song has to be “Outsider” it is still great, but I had to pick one song that isn’t quite like the rest it would be this one. A lot of the songs as I have said have so many different transitions this one is solid and one pace, it still is fucking great, but just a hair less than the other ones.
So with that I honestly have to give this album a 9/10 this album is almost flawless that I have had people rock out beside me while I have it blaring in my vehicle with my windows open on a sunny day!
I can see why it is coming up quickly in the UK charts and if it doesn’t go up on the US charts I’m going to wonder what the fuck is wrong with the metal heads out there! PICK this up June 11th! You will not be disappointed!
