Bring out the Horns and get ready to break your necks because another EP review is ready to go. However who is Evocation?
They are a death metal band out of Sweden started in 1992; they have been in the forefront of the Death metal scene for some time bringing out some great music in the time they have been around. Coming out with 2 demo albums in 1992, one Compilation album in 2004, and another demo album in 2006, finally bringing out three full-length albums between 2007 and 2010, before doing another Compilation album in 2012 and another full-length album in 2012 as well. With 2013 hitting us they decide to do an EP, but not only just an EP but a cover EP of some of the Death metal songs out there they probably considered their favorites. How is it you ask, we’ll let me tell you.
Fast heavy and hard! That is the best I can describe this EP. They take some great ones like Carcass's "Corporal Jigsore Quandary" and make bring their own sound into it, it really shows they have what it takes to honor other bands music and put it into an Ep that stands out!
Granted it is only 20 mines long and the longest song on there is "Enigma" (Edge of Sanity cover) at 6:50 seconds and the shortest is "You Suffer" (Napalm Death Cover) at 4 seconds, yes... four... seconds! It is a great EP for something to pass the time with.
I really don’t have much else to say about this; aside from the way they put it all together with their own sound it brings the songs back to life again. It is a stunning and great tribute to some of the bands out there. Even though it is an EP you will want to play it a few times over, if you enjoy your Death Metal!
Honestly I have to score this EP at a 9/10, they give the remakes songs some great justice and even though I had to search to find out if I had a bum copy or not with the four second song, it got me to listen carefully to all the other songs on the album and appreciate what they put into the songs to have it sound just that much better.
So if you find yourself thinking about getting this and you are unsure I'd say do it! You will not regret having picked this up.
For now I'm PK saying ROCK ON and we will see you on the next review!
