The Amanuensisa is a concept album that is loosely based upon David Mitchell’s novel Cloud Atlas. Incorporating the ideas of the Samsara cycle, a Buddhist conceptual cycle of birth, life and death the story is divided in 11 chapters whose titles read as follows ;}
.1 I, The Creator
.2 Origin of Escape
.5 Garden Of Sankhara
.6 The Alchemist
.8 Saga City
.10 I, The Destroyer
. 11 Samsara
I enjoyed this album from front to back, it encompasses all of the blasting groove rhythm and technical guitar riffs that are never repetitive and always changing. Chris Barrettos’ vocals really help each songs dimension from guttural moshing to very clean full range tapestries, immersing the listener on a journey through life - death – and the perspectives in between. John and Ollys’ guitar work is exquisite and Adam Swans’ bass lines will have you swinging your dreadlocks in unison. Mike Maylan is a monster on the kit keeping everything very technical and interesting .You could pick favorites throughout the album but everything gels together better listening to the disc as a whole.
The days of calling this band Djent or any other genre tag will be long gone after you hear this album which will have a lot of bands exploring new directions and pushing themselves to this level of musicianship.
