Hailing from Cologne ,North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany these 16 year veteran’s of the Hard/Metal scene have seven great album’s under their belt(s), a DVD (Guniversary) and a long list of street “cred”
Playing great shows like Wacken Open Air, Metalcamp and countless venues around Germany and U.K.
On my first listen to this disc I found myself intrigued how well the songs are arranged and how every element gels as a well crafted machine ~ from front to back, a metal rock attack/ all killer, no filler.
Best enjoyed loud and proud ,crank the subs and drive on down the highway.
I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Rolf Tanzius fills out all guitars on this disc with riff hooks laden with passion and direction as Tom Kintgen (Bass) and Toni Pinciroli (Drums) keep a strong rhythm section rolling. The vocalist Patrick Suhl has brought a new and dynamic range to this outfit that really stands out and brings this CD to a new level.
2012’s Brace For Impact brought Pat onboard with a more strait ahead shot of metal, but this disc shows us what Gun Barrel is capable of.
Setting the stage…
“Damage Dancers” opens with a swagger and style which threads its’ way throughout this disc. Some real deal!… that reminds me of new Accept \m/. “White knuckled and hellbound !”
“Bashing Through” has an up-tempo beat and lyrics (taps into the heart of all of us) that are hungry and willing to fight. Great quick-straight-forward song. Kinda like Whitesnake with a dirty attitude that sez ~ never give in.
Nice key change and range ~\m/an !.
“Passion Rules” starts with a slow marching order that everyone will understand, then the taps are opened and the song builds to a climax. Pat brings in a dio`esque vibe to this one.
“Building A Monster” is the heavy hitter with a driving beat that keeps yer head banging along ~ very Helloween-ish (just sayin \m/ great tune!)
“Whiteout” is my favourite track on this disc. Although there are many, this one stands out for me.
“Back Alley Ruler” kind of reminds me of Dangerous Toys or perhaps G’n’R ~ straight ahead shootin’ hard rock’n’roll boyz!
“Ride The Dragon” ~ Love the drums and overall sound of this one. Very catchy Ray Gillian - Badlands vibe on this tune. Definite “gem” \m/
“Heading For Disaster” Best played with the top down and the miles clicking by at a high rate of speed. Keep the good times rolling ~ ‘cause we’re headed for disaster anyhow, baby.
“Vultures Are Waiting” Has a superb double beat that keeps one very interested in how great this band really is, at keeping the metal faith. Will definitely spin this one again and again!
“Rise Up Out Of The Storm” is probably the AOR song on the disk. Has a very cool lyrical style to it with a hold your head up high theme and great closer for the entire disc.
Overall I feel this CD and current line up have a diversity and passion for what they love that is evident to the listener. Kudos Gun Barrel and I’m very glad that I’ve had this opportunity to review it and heard of this band for the first time.
Damage Dancers is enjoyable again and again. Good stuff \m/an!
Damage Dancers is available on Massacre Records~ enjoy!
