“Battle of Leningrad” is the brand new album from power metal supergroup Ring of Fire.
The band is fronted by former Yngwie J. Malmsteen collaborator Mark Boals. Every member of this band is a virtuoso at their respective instrument. With former members of legendary acts such as Steve Vai and Planet X it’s easy to see why this band is destined for success. This is the first release from the band since 2004’s Lapse of Reality.
The opening track “Mother Russia” leads the listener into a medieval battle with its intro, followed by the bands personal touch on traditional power metal styling. The vocals are powerful throughout the album and show off Mark Boals vocal range and skill.
Fans of the genre will appreciate the authentic metal sound accompanied by masterful musicianship. I found the album to album to have a very unique quality as I was drawn to a different aspect of the music every time I listened to the album. “They’re Calling Your Name” stood out musically and I could definitely hear the old school masterful guitar work provided by guitarist Tony Mcalpine. The slower ballad type songs “Land of Frozen Tears” and the title track “Battle of Leningrad” are perfectly placed in the album. This creates a flow to the album creating a pleasurable listening experience. Listeners that have a pure love of quality musicianship, or quality sounding albums will definitely want to add this album to their music collection. I enjoyed listening to this album, and found it to be very authentic to the genre.
I give this album an Insane 7.5 out of 10 Horns \m/
