While writing material for their next album, a short EP entitled “Into The Walls” was released in 2016, giving us a glimpse of the band’s musical growth and diversity with this limited 400 copy run of; two new songs - “In The Walls” - “Undying” with “The Bloody Meadow” and “Stormborn” (re-recorded) with the current lineup.
10 years strong and sights set, Seven Kingdoms have hit the mark with “Decennium” delivering 10 intricate and inspiring songs that’ll knock your topknot off. Full on progressive power metal that gels like mad, enticing the senses with poise and purpose, while kicking ass with symmetry.
“Stargazer“ rips off the wrapping paper with a fast tempo extravaganza that sets the pace. There are many metal genres intertwined throughout but “Undying” places Seven Kingdoms in league with Nightwish, Kamelot and their cousins Firewind, hammering home a magnus-opus tune. Smooth melodic European- sounding power metal that builds into an epic song. “In The Walls” busts down the barriers with a sonic blast beat and mesmerizing harmony. Razor-sharp twin guitar attack and a frenzied bass/rhythm pocket makes this one soar!
Thick rich and with oozing metal riffs, “The Tale Of Deathface Ginny”, captures the imagination with broad brush strokes and hypnotic harmonies. Precise execution and exquisite vocal range hallmark this track. “Castles In The Snow” picks up the beat, combining a bustling metal-rock tempo with epic melodic transitions. A solid wall of metal guitar sound with superb vocals that peak and balance.
Raise your swords for “Kingslayer” driving the metal to the hilt. Fast and daunting swagger with unadulterated fury, perfect this epic track. Short and sweet “The Faceless Hero” fires on all cylinders delivering a high octane thrash speed tempo, with a haunting/commanding vocal range from Sabrina and some very catchy guitar hooks and grooves.
The floodgates open up on “Neverending” unleashing a torrent of galloping metal force with intense vigor. Brash guitar riffs held down by bombastic drum rhythm, contrast well with Sabrina’s strong swooning vocals. Fast pulsing rhythm greets the listener on the opening bars of “Hollow”, with Sabrinas’ soft yet powerful vocals reigning over the dynamic power metal speed. Interesting key/ tempo-changes and progressive guitar lead runs, shape this song well.
The final track “Awakened From Nothing” retains the bands fast chugging power rhythm, intense drum work and commanding vocal range. A fitting finale, that builds from start to end, with a fist pumping bounce to it. Dynamic breakdowns combined with swirling guitar runs accentuate the powerful performance from Sabrina on vox.
