Dash is here, with you via Broken Neck Radio, as always bringing you metal, and nothing but…let’s dive in:
On this day, I present to you the brutal Swedes…Vampire! This is Vampire’s debut full-length offering having just signed to Century Media Records. This album was recorded last September and October in an old-fashioned, analogue studio. In reading more about the band, I discovered that they utilized accordions, a vibraphone, as well as vintage Fender Rhodes on this record. Very interesting. Now, to the music!
The opening track “Orexis” starts out quite fast and hard-hitting. Rasping vocals and authentic. Pure metal guitar riffs.
“Howl From the Coffin” is drum heavy and builds to an almost classic-metal sounding song. Some of the riffs in this song remind me of early Slayer. It’s awesome—no filter, no bullshit, all metal.
“At Midnight I’ll Possess Your Corpse” is metal at its finest. It has everything metal fans are after, growling, screaming guitars, and a great beat.
“The Bestial Abyss” is yet another solid and tight offering showcasing some amazing dueling guitars.
“The Fen” starts out with an amazing rolling, melodic guitar then speeds up into lightning-fast riffs and a barrage of drums. Love the vocals on this one.
“Cellar Grave Vampire” is the stuff of nightmares. Another solid, kick-ass metal song.
Vampire has a unique sound to me. Yes, it’s certainly a “throwback”, but with a modern edge. I truly appreciate the fact that they utilized the analog system to record the album; it definitely makes a difference in the sound. It’s quite pure in the musicianship, nothing artificial about this album. I usually do not like to compare bands, but Vampire really gave me all that I love and more with this album. I can definitely hear the influences of Slayer, Venom, King Diamond and even some Judas Priest.
Folks who appreciate their metal with a touch of evil, some classic guitar, brutal drums and gritty vocals will certainly love this one. And who doesn’t love Vampires? I know that I do. Another winner out of Sweden.
