This 10 track album is set to release in North America August 27th 2013
The album was produced by Mike Elizondo* ( who is credited co –producing Mastodons new album “The Hunter”, and produced 2010 A7X album “Nightmare”)
This marks the first album with new drummer Arin Ilejay, who joined the band as a touring drummer in 2011 before becoming an official member in 2013.
This is also the first Avenged Sevenfold album without any musical contributions from the band's late drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan.
Previous to this album I considered myself a mediocre fan. I liked A7X but I was not a diehard fan.
So with that, it allowed me to go into this album a little more objective.
The opening track “Shephard of Fire” was definitely a “oh wow” moment and caused me to turn it up.
Great solid sound really had me banging my head, was certainly a pleasant surprise for an opening track.
With the 2nd track just as powerful as the first, the third track “Doing Time” was not so powerful and coming in a little bland and brought the intensity from the first 2 tracks down a bit.
Tracks 4 and 5 were better however track 5 threw me off with some gospel like chanting in the song.
And then came track 6 “Crimson Day”, personally I am not a fan of Ballads. I’m, however, 100% positive though the diehard A7X will surely LOVE this song.
After the tempo being reduced with the ballad tracks 7, 8, 9 were very refreshing it was like getting my head blown right off.
The last and final track “Acid Rain” was again meant for the Die Hard A7X fans as it was another Ballad.
I believe If Avenged Sevenfold set out, with this album, to convert or convince some “mediocre fans” such as myself, to diehard fans.
Then folks this definitely were the album that did it. I believe that every band should strive to progress with each album, and this is certainly A7X progression.
To all you DIE HARD A7X fans. This is definitely the album you have been waiting for.
I would definitely give this a solid 8/10
Till next time
