Here we go
#10 - U.D.O - "Steelhammer"
Formed in 1987 After UDO left ACCEPT I barely listened to them until recently someone told me they had released a new album this year.
Grabbed their Latest called “Steelhammer” released on May 21st, 2013, through AFM Records. released I was very shocked and that’s why its #10
#9 - Anvil "Hope in Hell"
Some ppl I spoke to didn’t like the album. Personally Ive always liked Anvil but my expectations were still quite low. When I put this one in it def got a nod and a “not bad” hence #9 spot
#8 - Helloween "Straight out of Hell"
Another album that I had some very low expectations for… it was in fact recorded in Spain
#7 - Havok "Unnatural Selection"
A larger surprise then the others, maybe due in part I never listened to a lot of Havok before… but I really liked this one …
According to an interview with Singer/Guitarist David Sanchez Unnatural Selection will be the band's last release on Candlelight Records. The band is moving on from Candlelight Records in order to broaden their horizons with a larger label
#6 - Gwar – “Battle Maximus”
The album was the first to feature new guitarist Brent Purgason (of Cannabis Corpse), portraying the new character Pustulus Maximus. It was also the first album to feature bassist Jamison Land, portraying longtime character, Beefcake the Mighty.
Although my recorder died on me during the interview I did get to in fact have a chat with Oderus… but I think he sabotaged it with his brain powers.
#5 – Queensryche (self titled not the Geoff Tate version) released June 25, 2013 in the U.S. and Canada VIA Century Media Records
With all the legal bullshit , that I wont go into, I 100% was expecting complete crap from this album.
It was a complete surprise ….
#4 – The Black Dahlia Murder “Everblack” Released through Metal Blade Records on June 11, 2013.
the first album to feature new drummer Alan Cassidy, who replaced Shannon Lucas, and new bassist Max Lavelle, who replaced Ryan "Bart" Williams. Vocalist Trevor Strnad has stated in an interview that the album’s name and content was an artistic rebuttal to the speculation that the band had “changed direction” as a result of participating in this year’s Warped Tour.
I had a set expectation of TBDM they did not fail to deliver. This album was like getting punched in the face with the same force just slightly different just to make it a little better
#3 – Shai Hulud “ Reach Beyond the Sun” released February 19 in the U.S. through Metal Blade Records
Honestly, I have never heard of this band until this album, maybe because they started off as a hardcore punk band and I hate hardcore punk. This band however has moved with this album into more of a Metalcore directions…it def was a very HUGE surprise and ive become quite fond of them
#2 – Deicide “In the Minds of Evil” released on November 26, 2013, by Century Media Records
This is the first Deicide album to feature guitarist Kevin Quirion, who became a full-time member in 2011.
Fuck me is all I gotta say… this album was as brutal as kick to the buts with combat boots on.. couldn’t stop listening to this one
One of those ones you had to share to every singler metalhead you know
#1 – BattleCross – “War of Will”
This is only their 2nd album so I barely had heard any of their stuff before when I put this album away I was so blown away by It I was actually pissed off and regretting never hearing about them before They are 100% by #1 surprise of 2013 maybe I had no expectations but still it was shocking
*next week ill have my top 5 Disappointing albums of 2013
